A Bucket List Life Update, Sandals you can Swim in, Excellent Summer Shoes and Capsule Wardrobe Staples
Welcome to our Sunday meeting!
What a week! What an absolute treat to be warm/too hot! Hope you had a good week wherever you are!
This week we have been busy in Cornwall, building, decorating, hanging wallpaper and generally getting loads of jobs done. We ticked loads off the list and our lovely builder started on the lower floor, so hopefully over the coming months I’ll be sharing the bathroom, utility, bedroom and hall as it is all being done - walls are coming down as we speak!
LIFE UPDATE….Gav and I are now busy preparing for a real bucket list trip, we are heading to France for an extended trip in the VW. He’s spent 18 months transforming it from empty van, in to what it is today - with a kitchen, dining space and a super clever bed that can be raised out of the way by the touch of a button - it’s his baby and I can’t believe how he’s done it all, it really is amazing - I’ll show you next week when we are about to hit the road. But first, an appointment with his oncology haematologist, one little hurdle to overcome and we can GOOOOO!
In the meantime, I have been doing important business like gathering the first aid kit and working out what to wear. Generally, when we camp, I mosh down at a terrifyingly fast pace, to resemble Hagrid. I even scare myself. Years ago, when we got home after camping with the kids, I was showing my Mum the photos and she asked ‘who’s the short man in the photos?’ That would be me.
So I am working on a capsule wardrobe in a last ditch effort to avoid the above. Unfortunately I can’t do a thing about the hair which is attached to my head, no matter how much I manifest hair that behaves itself for days on end, my hair is rubbish and needs washing every day. (I know) But I can wear a hat and a fabulous co-ord and waft round in the capsule wardrobe adding the odd emergency item from a French supermarche if needed. (We all know that will be a baguette and some brie)
We have minimum space for the usual clobber and I am very much hoping it will be warm, which makes packing much easier.
Let’s start with shoes. My favourite subject.
I RAVE about these sandals from SALTWATER because you can wear them in the sea. AND they are really really comfy. The Original Salties are lovely, but these are ELITE. They come in heaps of colours and I am sorely tempted to get another pair but I love my old tan faithfuls.
Also in the armoury, these are ACE. I love that they aren’t totally flat. Back in the day I had some REEFS when we travelled round Oz, they were the first ‘velcro’ sandals that were cool. I loved them, but they were very very flat. Enter FITFLOP I have the below, but they come in other colours and the whole site is worth a gander for utmost comfort without looking like my old geography teacher from the late 80s. HA!
I have put a little selection together for your perusal. A very tonal edit of delicious footwear that will go with anything this Summer… catering for all weathers but we live in eternal hope that we can just go barefoot.
JOULES DECK SHOES - SO COMFY and true to size
LEOPARD CLOGS from my fav Cornish footwear brand. True to size and very comfy, available in heaps of colours and styles. I have the leopard and I LOVE them
Now, if you happen to be in Newquay…
… you may ‘accidentally stumble’ upon Fat Face (which is VERY handily located right on the beach) and you might meet Steph, who is the manageress there. Steph and the whole team are SO lovely and really know their stuff so if you need any help, they will have an outfit (with accessories) whipped together in a flash.
Molly knows they keep dog biscuits behind the till so we have to visit each time we pass. It’s such a draaaag but who’d deny those Spaniel eyes. (It’s extremely dangerous. Don’t go. SAVE YOUSELVES)
If you aren’t located nearby, below is a cute little edit, capsule style, of some lovely pieces I spotted in store. Again, super tonal and easily mixed and matched
1. FLIPPY SHORTS with a lovely wide shirred elastic waistband
2. LEMON- The colour of the season, DENIM JACKET (available in MANY colours)
3. OVERSIZED TORTOISESHELL SUNGLASSES
5. CHAMBRAY BRODERIE SHORTS - how cute are they
6. PADSTOW CHINO SHORTS (4 colours available)
7. DENIM SHORTS
9. PLAIN WHITE TEE. A wardrobe staple
10. DELICIOUS BEACH BAG - zipped top and with a zipped internal pocket too
IF you happen to be visiting (for dawg biscuits obvs) then keep your eye out in store for the below. I left Gav in the beach bar (place where husbands can be readily deposited with very little argument) and returned triumphant with this exact bag. Upon my joyous return, Gav rolled his eyes and asked ‘Did you need another bag?’
‘You’ll never guess what Gav, they were literally giving them away (for £19.50) and I ALWAYS need another bag’ What a stupid question. Have another beer.
LAST but not least. I arrived in Cornwall with 2 pairs of jeans and a pair of joggers. The temperature promptly rose to 25 degrees so I was forced to purchase a pair of emergency shorts. SO I BOUGHT THESE gorgeous styled with a white vest and an open denim shirt
And I now take FULL responsibility for the THICK sea fog and mizzle that rolled in almost immediately. FFS
ANYWAY
That concludes our weekly meeting :)
Have a lovely Sunday and wahooooo to a bonus Monday!
I’ll be back next week with another post full of random things to share with you. As ever thank you for attending the meeting and a huge thank you for allowing me to drop in to your in box each week. In a time of way too many emails arriving and lots of emails being unsubscribed to, I massively appreciate you subscribing to mine.
Love
